About Gail Shak, Ph.D.

Gail Shak, Ph.D.I am a licensed psychologist in the state of California. I have been practicing psychotherapy for nearly 30 years, 25 of which have been in the San Francisco Bay Area.

In addition to working in my private psychology practice in Burlingame, California, I am also on the staff of the Department of Psychiatry at Mills-Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame, California.

I am connected to, and actively involved in, the Bay Area psychological community. I am a member in good standing of several professional organizations, and routinely acquire continuing education to further my knowledge and enhance my work with clients. For several years I served as the Co-Chair of the Political Action Committeee of the San Mateo County Psychological Association, and worked with our State Senators to pass legislation representing the rights and interests of psychotherapy clients.

Each client who comes into my office can expect my insight, experience, and respect.

My role is to understand your therapeutic goals — what you are trying to accomplish in therapy — and to support you in your endeavors. My responsibility is to tailor specific approaches that help you achieve your goals and to create a climate of safety. My intention is to be authentic and expressive with you in the therapeutic process, to provide objectivity and accountability.

I love the work I do, and it is a privilege to get to know and help so many people in this way. I value the human connection, and feel deep satisfaction in watching people make changes and improve their lives. If I had it to do it all over, I would surely choose this work again.

For more information about how I approach my work or the services I offer, I encourage you to contact me with your questions or to schedule an appointment. I may be reached by phone at 650-375-1588, or by e-mail at I look forward to speaking with you!
